Baguio Animal Welfare's Advocacy

THIS BLOG  was established as an online medium of the Baguio Animal Welfare advocates to make responsible dog/pet owners out of people and educate them on Animal Welfare laws, and as a consequence, ensure that the welfare of pet animals is duly upheld.
IN OUR HUMBLE CAPACITY, we aim to help the homeless (abandoned and stray), neglected and abused animals of Baguio City (and Benguet) so that their owners may realize and accordingly perform their responsibilities and, consequently, that animals may truly find loving and deserving homes.
The Baguio Animal Welfare is a group of of volunteers dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of pets in need of the protection provided for by law and the well-being that they deserve. The group also provides education, access to low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination programs for dog owners.

WE ARE ADVOCATES. . . we are not dog lovers only.
THIS IS A CAUSE, . . . not a dog show nor this page is an ad site for the sale of dogs (and pets) and other merchandise and services relevant thereto.
RESCUING A DOG (PET) , especially in cases of mere NEGLECT, does not necessarily mean we shall wrest the animal away from the owner IF:
(1) owner admits to his shortcomings in good faith;
(2) owner is receptive to education on, and shows willingness to adhere to, animal welfare laws and responsible dog ownership;
(3) an arrangement has been made for owner to rectify the predicament of the dog/pet;
(3) BAW has established ways to monitor the compliance of owner.
The PRIMARY OBJECTIVE of BAW is TO MAKE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS out of people. THEREFORE, we give people the chance to correct their mistakes, make amends with their pets, and for this give them the benefit of the doubt.
UNLESS, owner voluntarily surrenders the dog (pet) if he/she admits that she/she could no longer remain, or become, responsible dog owner.
The case is different if the dog is a victim of GRAVE NEGLIGENCE, or MALTREATMENT, bordering on CRUELTY, because that constitute criminal intent. THEREFORE, the dog has to be rescued away from habitual offender or incorrigible animal abuser. We have to apply the FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW, file a complaint with the City Prosecutor's Office, and upon conviction by final judgement, offender shall be punished by imprisonment and/or fine, depending on gravity of offense.
We believe that in the saying: ANG PASAWAY AY DAPAT MASAMPULAN.
WE DO NOT SELL RESCUED PETS -- we turn them over to carefully screened foster parents of adopters. MOREOVER, we continue monitoring adopted pets.
WE DO NOT ALLOW REPORTERS to adopt or foster the rescued pets they themselves reported.
We have no paid staff. Our animals are cared for by volunteers.
